Kothagudem: An incident of a tribal pregnant woman wading through a gushing stream at Rollagadda village of Gundal mandal in the district went viral on social media prompting the District Collector MV Reddy to order a probe into the incident.
According to the sources, the woman called N Mamatha of Narsapuram hamlet of Rollagadda Gram Panchayat developed labour pains on Friday. Her family members called 108 ambulance service. However, the woman was forced to walk through Mallannavagu to reach the ambulance parked on the other side of the stream.
With the help of family members, Mamatha managed to reach the ambulance. She was first taken to Mahabubabad District Hospital where the doctors allegedly refused to admit her and then she was taken to Narsampet Area Hospital in Warangal.
The villagers complained that a temporary bridge built across the stream was washed away following recent rains. The construction of a permanent bridge was delayed for the reasons unknown causing untold pains to the villagers, they said. It might be recalled that a similar incident occurred on June 12 on which a tribal woman called Esam Sandhya Rani of the village in the advanced stage of pregnancy and in labour pains forced to wade through the stream, Mallannavagu to reach a PHC eight kilometres away at Gudala.
