Kothagudem: Power generation at the eighth unit (120MW) of Kothagudem Thermal Power Station – KTPS (O&M) was stopped permanently on Thursday.

Shutting down the unit was part of the decision by the management of the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) to phase out the unit that outlived its utility and due to excessive pollution it was causing.

Chairman and Managing Director D Prabhakar Rao issued orders in that direction, official sources said. It may be noted that the 3rd and 6th units with 60 MW capacity of the power station were decommissioned some time back.

The 8th unit was initially of 110MW capacity and was renovated and upgraded to 120MW.
