Hyderabad: Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao has mesmerised many with his eloquent speeches in the past. However, the Minister has proved that he is as good a speaker in Hindi as he is in English and Telugu.

Speaking at the CII India Design Summit, the Minister addressed every person on the dais with a line or two in Hindi. Requesting Professor Pradyumna Vyas, director, National Institute of Design and member secretary, India Design Council, Rama Rao said, “Ek zaamane mein hum NID yaha banana ka mauka mila tha lekin State ka bifurcation ho gaya aur NID Vijayawada ko chala gaya (Long time back we wanted to set up a NID here but after the bifurcation of the State, NID went to Vijayawada). Now I need your help to getting an NID in Hyderabad.”

Not only this, the Minister also took the constant power outages happening in the event in his stride and told Priya Paul, chairperson, CII National Committee in Design and chairperson, The Park Hotels that power cuts are by design. “Aap jab baath kar rahi thi toh ek do baar power gaya that (when you were talking there was power cut) .. that was also by design… woh bhi humari strategy hai (that is also our strategy),” he said to a rousing applause.

He also appealed to U B Desai, director, IIT Hyderabad to fix the power outages. “Aap ek cheez humare liye kar sakte ho ki ape thoda power ka problem teekh kijiye kyunki aap electrical engineer ho and yaha pe circuit mein gadbad hai (Please do us a favour, please fix this power outages as there seems to be a problem with the circuit and you are an electrical engineer). Because as a State we are power surplus,” he said as the power went off again while he was speaking.

Rama Rao also highlighted the fact that the three-day Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) was without any glitches and just one-day event has seen four power outages. The Minister also added humour and wit to his speech at the summit even as he took a dig at U B Desai for sharing his initials with embattled businessman Vijay Mallya’s company U B Group. “Log samajhne lagenge ki aapka aur Vijay Mallya ka taluk hai (People will think you are connected to Vijay Mallya).”
