Rajanna-Sircilla: The long-standing dream of 311 tribal farmers came true on Tuesday when IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao distributed land ownership pattas to them at a programme in Vennampeta.
Though they involved in podu cultivation in 281 acres in Rangampeta of Veernapalli mandal, they were denied land pattas for decades.
Located in dense forest, the area was earlier a stronghold of Maoists. Even Maoists, who used to distribute lands of landlords to the poor, failed to solve the land dispute between podu farmers and forest department.
However, Rama Rao solved the dispute by ordering a joint survey by forest and revenue officials. District Collector D Krishna Bhaskar played a vital role in making the long standing dream of the tribals a reality.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Guguloth Kalavathi, Veernapalli ZPTC, thanked Rama Rao for fulfilling the dream of tribals.
“Though the tribals were involved in podu cultivation for a long time, revenue officials failed to give ownership pattas to farmers since forest department claimed the land. Despite making the rounds of revenue and forest officials for decades, the issue was not resolved,” she said.
While distributing the land pattas, Rama Rao said that after a lot of exercise, the officials managed to resolve the land dispute between farmers and forest department.
One can understand how the issue was more complicated since it has been pending for the past few decades, he said, and thanked the collector, revenue and forest department officials for solving the problem.
