Hyderabad: The fight against uranium mining in Nallamala forest area took a fresh turn on Friday, with IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao promising that he will discuss the issue with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He was responding to requests from concerned citizens to stop uranium exploration and save Nallamala forests.
“I hear all of your concern on the issue of uranium mining in Nallamala forest. I assure you all that I shall personally discuss the matter with the Chief Minister,” he tweeted.

People from all walks of life, including students, took part in large numbers in protests against the Centre’s attempts to explore uranium inside Amrabad Tiger Reserve. Several organisations like Forest and Wildlife Protection Society (FAWPS), HyTICOS, Hyderabad Birding Pals and others have been opposing the proposal and creating awareness among people in this regard.
The issue has also found support from the film fraternity with actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan pledging support to the anti-uranium mining movement. Actors like Vijay Devarakonda, Samantha Akkineni and others joined the anti-uranium mining campaign.
On Friday, Telangana Congress set up a full-fledged committee to study the proposals for uranium mining in Nallamala forests and make suggestions to stop destruction of environment.
