Hyderabad: The preliminary hearing in the Olathe shooting in Kansas, which left Srinivas Kuchibhotla dead and two others, Alok Madasani and Ian Grillot injured, will begin on September 18.
The date for the hearing was set by the Johnson County District Court on Monday, when the suspect in the shooting case, Adam Purinton, 51, appeared before the court.
According to reports in Kansas media, including the Kansas City Star, Purinton, is charged with first-degree murder in the February 22 shooting of Kuchibhotla, 32, a Garmin engineer who was in the US on a work visa. Kuchibhotla was a native of Bachupally in Hyderabad.
Purinton is also charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting and wounding Alok Madasani, 32, a colleague of Kuchibhotla at Garmin and hailing from Kothapet in Hyderabad, and 24-year-old Ian Grillot of Olathe.
According to the reports, at least one witness has said that Purinton yelled, “Get out of my country,” before opening fire at Austins Bar & Grill. Grillot was shot as he tried to apprehend the shooter.
Purinton remains in the Johnson County jail with a bond set at $2 million. The FBI is also investigating the case as a possible hate crime, the reports added.
