Visakhapatnam: Former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Government IYR Krishna Rao has said that he had to come out with the book `Whose Capital Amaravati’, to create awareness among the general public on the irregularities involved in the construction of the new capital city of the State.
Participating in the formal release of the book here on Sunday, he said that a false-campaign indulged in by some newspapers also made him resolve to author the book, for, such lies would mislead the people with regard to the happenings in Amaravati. He also felt a lot of importance was accorded to construction of the capital, concentrating all development at one place, which was not right.
Apart from spending thousands of crores of public money on Amaravati, lakhs of acres of fertile land was also destroyed in the process, he lamented.
Chief Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar who released the book, said that it was a pity that Andhra Pradesh did not have the Right to Information Act, Human Rights Commission and High Court.
Former Energy Secretary EAS Sarma said that Andhra Pradesh Government went about acquiring lands not only for Amaravati but also in Visakhapatnam and the lands worth lakhs of crores of rupees were being given away on a platter to private parties.
Congress leader and social activist Bolisetti Satyanarayana, Editor of Leader Telugu eveninger VV Ramana Murthy and others spoke.
