Mahabubabad: Cold weather conditions have claimed the life of a farmer who slept in the open at the Kesamudram agriculture market committee (AMC) yard in the district in the wee hours of Saturday.
The deceased was identified as N Sattaiah aged around 65 years of Nayakapally village. According to the official sources, the farmer came to sell paddy at the market on Friday and sold the produce by evening but had stayed back at the place for night and slept at the market yard outside the guest house. He died of cold weather in the wee hours.
When contacted, AMC secretary P Mallesham said that Sattiah slept outside though he could have slept at the guest house adding that Sattiah could not go back to his village for want of transport facility in the evening.
“He was also suffering from asthma,” he said adding that they would see that the kin of the deceased were given Rs 2 lakh financial aid from the government. However, the relatives of the deceased said that Sattaiah was not allowed to sleep in the guest house. The body was shifted to Mahabubabad government hospital for the postmortem. Sattaiah is survived by wife Sattamma, a son and three daughters.
