Mahabubnagar: Health Minister inaugurates Thalassemia and Hemophilia Centre

Thalassemia and Hemophilia Centre was the first to be opened in districts and that Mahabubnagar was the first of the lucky districts to have the facility.

Mahabubnagar: Health Minister Dr C Laxma Reddy, along with Mahabubnagar MLA V Srinivas Goud, inaugurated the newly established Thalassemia and Haemophilia daycare centre at Mahabubnagar Government Hospital on the occasion of Telangana Formation Day on Saturday.

The Minister said Mahabubnagar district had reached new levels in the sector of healthcare. It stood second in Telangana in institutional deliveries, establishing mother and newborn care centres, palliative care centre and so on.

He said earlier, Thalassemia Centre was available only in Hyderabad and this was the first to be opened in districts. “Treatment for Thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder used to be very expensive and treatment used to span for longer periods.”

“By opening Thalassemia and Hemophilia centre in the government hospital, the State government has fulfilled its commitment to the well being of the poorest of the poor, who can’t afford expensive healthcare services,” he added.
