Nalgonda: Executive Council of Mahathma Gandhi University (MGU) has resolved to remove 32 Associate Professors and Assistant Professors as the inquiry committee had come across irregularities in their recruitment.

Special Chief Secretary (Education) Ranjeev R Acharya also attended the Executive Council meeting and had taken special initiative to include the issue of appointment of 32 Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in the agenda of the meeting.

It is learnt that the Executive Council meeting has also decided to issue memos to earlier Vice-Chancellor of MGU Katta Narsimha Reddy and then Registrar Pochanna, in whose period the appointments took place.

As many as 32 Associate Professors and Assistant Professors were appointed in the University by issuing notification in September 2011, while a Assistant Professor post was filled with the notification No. 1/2011. Of the 32 posts, six were for Associate Professor post.

When some of unemployed candidates submitted memorandum to the Education Minister and higher officials alleging irregularities in the recruitment of Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in the university, the government ordered an inquiry by forming a three member committee headed by former Vice Chancellor of Osmania University in October 2016 and instructed the committee to submit report within one month.

But, within one week after setting up of inquiry committee, the Executive Council meeting approved the Probation Period of 31 Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in violation of the rules. There are allegations that present Vice Chancellor of the university Khaja Althaf Hussein has played a key role in the matter.

The inquiry committee submitted its report to the State government in October 2016. Though the Special Chief Secretary had issued instructions to the university Vice-Chancellor in April, 2018, for action against the faculty, who got posts with invalid certificates and did not have required qualifications, has not taken up any action.

After this Special Chief Secretary convened Executive Council meeting on Monday with a single agenda of action against 32 Associate Professors and Assistant Professors.

According to the sources, the inquiry committee found that a person got Associate Professor post in the university with a certificate from Italian University, which was not valid as per the guidelines of UGC. Majority of these 32  faculty were selected to the posts with certificates from universities in other States, which are barely known.

For Associate Professor post, a candidate who has completed Ph D would be eligible. But among those recruited for the six Associate Professor posts , no one has fulfilled the parameter set by the UGC.

It was mandatory for candidates to have 200 Academic Performance Score for Assistant Professor post as per UGC, but no candidate among 24 Assistant Professors recruited in the year 2016, have more than 50 score.
