Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Thursday urged officials to transform Karimnagar into a green city by taking up saplings plantation in a big way in all the divisions as part of Haritha Haram programme.

The Minister, accompanied by Karimnagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Y Sunil Rao, District Collector K Shashanka, KMC Commissioner Valluru Kranthi and others planted trees in the Veterinary Polytechnic College here.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar instructed the college authorities and officials to take up block plantation in 35 acres of open place available in the institution. He wanted the officials to achieve the target by the end of this month. “Since only little time is left, plantation works should be done on a fast track mode,” he said.

The Minister advised the college authorities to take steps to protect the saplings by supplying water with the help of KMC. He instructed KMC Commissioner to take steps to complete tree plantation targets. Earlier, he inspected the trees planted in the college during the previous Haritha Haram programme.
