Hyderabad: The Ninth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court here sentenced one Akbar Ali Kashani for three years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a cheating case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000.

The case dates back to 2012 when one Ramesh Rayudu from Borabanda lodged a complaint with the Cyber crime police stating that he received a mail informing he had won a lottery worth one million Pounds. He showed the mail to his friend Akbar Ali Kashani who convinced him to follow the procedure of their requirement and paid Rs 26 lakh on different occasions.

According to the police, a case was booked and during the probe, investigators learned Kashani had introduced himself to Rayudu as a manager of the Axis Bank and advised him to negotiate with the mails. He asked Rayudu to transfer amounts to his account which he said he would transfer to the organisers. Rayudu got another mail informing that he had to transfer Rs 2.3 lakh towards flight charges of representatives of Lotto International Company who were coming to Mumbai along with the prize amount of Rs 46 crore, which he did.

Rayudu thus lost Rs.26 lakh before realising he was being cheated. Cyber crime police filed charge sheet against Kashani and after trial, the court convicted him.
