Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Cybercrime police arrested a civil engineer on charges of cheating and extorting money from a woman whom he befriended on a dating site, police said.
The arrested, G Abdullah, is a resident of Laxminagar in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, Abdullah introduced himself as Dr G Karthik Reddy, an anaesthetist working for a hospital in Hyderabad and allegedly forced her to transfer her personal contacts and photos to his mobile phone.
“He constantly pressurised her for sexual favours and demanded money. He extorted Rs 4 lakh and also sexually harassed her,” the police said.
Based on a complaint, the cybercrime police booked a case and based on technical evidence, Abdullah was nabbed from Manikonda.
Investigation revealed that Abdullah presently was working as a civil engineer with Silfa Electrical at Kukatpally and used to chat with girls and married women on Tinder with a fake profile, as a medical doctor.
“He came in contact with the victim on the dating site and both started sharing their personal details too. However, after some days, she asked him to stop talking and since then the harassment started,” officials said.
Police said Abdullah also threatened to upload their intimate photos and videos on social media to defame her. He was remanded in judicial custody.
