Mancherial: Various ancient medicine systems of India have almost lost their sheen with the advent modern one, allopathy. However, Dr KN Sukumar and his wife Dr Potu Sameera Reddy, belonging to Mancherial town, are passionately practicing and promoting naturopathy, a drugless system of treatment in the district for nearly a decade. They are relentlessly striving for regaining the glory of indigenous medicine system, which was invented by saints and existed in the country for many centuries.

Sukumar who hails from Chikmaglur in Karnataka, and Sameera, a native of historical town Chennur, chose serving mother land over earning handsome salaries and leading luxurious life by practicing the medicine in urban parts.

They are devoted to create awareness among the public over this system and in playing a vital role for building a healthy society.

“We both worked in Bengaluru, Kolkata and the United States of America for quite long time after graduating. We could have been offered huge pays, had we shown interest to practice naturopathy in any of the cities. But, we consciously selected Mancherial district which lacks understanding in this branch of medicine and treat many modern-day diseases by charging affordable prices,” the doctor couple told ‘Telangana Today’

The two doctors had founded first its kind, Mythri Yoga and Nature Cure Centre, a unit of Satya Foundation, a voluntary organisation established by Potu Satyanarayana Reddy, a Chennur-based trader and ardent follower of ancient ways of living and medicine systems of the country, in 2010. They have been organising a slew of awareness programmes in several parts of the district by collaborating with the Union government for over nine years.

To their credit, the pair conducted somewhere between 20 and 30 programmes in educational institutions and offices of various government departments in Mancherial district from 2010-13. They had associated with National Institute of Naturopathy-Pune. They are holding naturopathy camps and free yoga training programmes in the district with the help of ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) for the last few years.

Sukumar and Sameera earned bachelor of naturopathy and yogic science in the naturopathic science from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru in Karnataka in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Sukumar was lecturer in naturopathy and yoga at SDM College of Naturapthy and Yogic Science, Karnataka for two years.

The post-graduate in psychotherapy and counseling had accomplished mammoth task of re-establishing Birla Yoga and Nature Cure Institution in Kolakata from 2002 to 2007. He was joined by Sameera when working on this mission. They both were employed by the famous Sreyas Retreat of Bengaluru before they both were tasked with setting up wellness centres promoted by a media baron of India, in America, till 2010.
