Kumram Bheem Asifabad: In-charge Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier rebutted the allegations levelled by the banned Maoist party that policemen were harassing tribals of the district. The extremists are, in fact, stalling development by resorting to violent acts, he said.
In a statement here on Wednesday, Warrier said that naxalites were out to destroy the peace and tranquility in tribal hamlets by forcing them to provide food and shelter. “Isn’t it true that Maoists terrorise the ethnics when they deny them food and shelter? Is it their ideology to render the ethnic tribes orphans by killing certain tribals in the name of informers?” he questioned.
The IPS officer alleged that members of Maoists squads were extorting money from contractors and businessmen. He accused them of inducting gullible women into the party through enticements. “Many tribals families have been ruined by the acts of the extremists. The tribals are hard working people, but they are living in fear due to movement of the ultras in the backward Kumram Bheem Asifabad district,” he rued.
Stating that the tribals had now realised the adverse impact of the Maoists’ activities, the SP advised the rural folks and tribals not to trust the extremists and to thwart their efforts to gain a foothold in the district. He requested them not to extend any form of support to the members of the banned group.
Warrier exuded confidence the policemen and security forces would soon be able to chase out the Maoists from the forests of the district. He informed that special police parties were carrying out intense combing operations. He suggested the Maoists should surrender themselves before policemen and to join the social mainstream.
He said that they could lead a happy life by availing the rehabilitation package extended by the government. He urged the public to share information of the Naxalites with police officials. He assured that the identity of the informants would not be disclosed and that they would be rewarded for their cooperation with the police.
