Ada Hegerberg, the 23-year-old Norwegian athlete who also plays for French club Lyon, won the Women’s Champions League last season. She was awarded the first-ever Women’s Ballon d’Or award in Paris.
Moments after the Norwegian soccer star was honoured with a major soccer award, a co-host of the ceremony asked Hegerberg if she knows how to twerk.
Hegerberg responded with a simple ‘no’ looking uncomfortable onstage. This awkward exchange has led to backlash on social media and an apology from the co-host, Martin Solveig. However, Hegerberg, who ended up dancing with Solveig to a Frank Sinatra song for a few seconds, told reporters there, after the ceremony, that Solveig went to her later and apologised that it went that way.
French DJ Martin, Solveig apologised and said he was taken aback by the stormy reaction online after he asked about the incident. In a video posted on Twitter, he apologised in person to Hegerberg and said that he was astonished at the reaction. “Guys I’m a little bit amazed, astonished by what I’m reading on the internet.” He further added, “Of course I didn’t want to offend anyone… This was a joke, probably a bad one and I want to apologise for the one I may have offended.”
