Inflows into projects on Godavari, tributaries on the rise

Hyderabad: The Central Water Commission in its flood forecast of lower Krishna river for Telangana and its upper riparian State Karnataka has indicated massive inflows into projects. Similarly inflows into irrigation projects on Godavari and its tributaries is also on the rise, due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the river.

As on Thursday evening, the Almatti project is receiving steady inflow of 2,57,797 cusecs and Narayanpur dam also has steady inflow of 2,68,386 cusecs. The Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) to have steady inflow of 3,53, 140 cusecs , Tungabhadra Dam to receive lesser inflow of 47,674 cusecs, Sunkesula will receive falling inflows at 88,285 cusecs, Srisailam is rising with inflows of 4,52,019 cusecs, and Pulichintala is rising with 44,143 cusecs.

The PJP is brimming with flood water at 318.110 meters against an FRL of 318.516 meters. The inflow is 3,45,000 cusecs and outflow is 3,52,221 cusecs which includes Nettampadu lift, hydro electrical unit and the canal system. Srisailam Project which was receiving over 4,43,226 cusecs of water the outflow is 3,45,000 cusecs . Both the left and right hydro electrical units are producing hydel power. In all 10 crest gates have been lifted up to ten feet and 2,75,240 cusecs have been released downstream into Nagarjuna Sagar.

At Nagarjuna Sagar the water level is rising with 573.60 feet of water against a Full Reservoir level (FRL) of 590.00 feet. Inflow was 1,52,674 cusecs and outflow is 3912 cusecs. The quantum of available water in Nagarjuna Sagar is 265.605 tmc against storage capacity of 312.0405 tmc. At Taliperu medium irrigation project in Khammam district an inflow of 1,71,315 cusecs of water is entering the reservoir and the project is discharging 1,62,790 cusecs down the stream by lifting project gates. On the other hand the Ramanpad Dam in Mahbubnagar district also on river Krishna is receiving heavy inflows and the present water level is 273.898 Mcft against an FRL of 299.4751 Mcft.

On Godavari river and tributaries , heavy inflows were recorded in different projects. At Sri Ram Sagar Project the inflows are 89,656 cusecs and outflows are 863 cusecs. Sripada Yellapalli is receiving 84,597 cusecs and releasing 1,15,485 cusecs, inflow into Lower Manair Dam is 7,408 cusecs and outflow is 289 cusecs and Kaddam Adinarayana Reddy reservoir is receiving 19,102 cusecs and discharging 18,251 cusecs.
