Medak: With the help of the Telangana government and donors, a young mountaineer from Medak district is going on Mount Kilimanjaro expedition, the tallest peak in Africa.

Bheemari Baswaraj, 28, a native of T Mandapur village of Chinna Shankarampet mandal, left for Tanzania on Thursday with the aim to conquer Mt Kilimanjaro on August 15, the Indian Independence Day.

Last year Baswaraj was seeking support from philanthropists to help him realise his dream. Motivated by the success of the Malvath Poorna, the youngest girl in the world to scale Mt Everest, Baswaraj underwent mountaineering training at Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering, Arunachal Pradesh, being run by Indian Army; and at Bhongir Rock Climbing School, with a target to conquer the tallest peak in the world.

But, he postponed the plan due to lack of funding and chose to scale Mt Kilimanjaro instead. Baswaraj, who used to work as Physical Director on outsourcing basis at Social Welfare Residential School in Ramayampet, quit the job to earn some quick bucks by working as a photographer to realise his dream.

However, he could not earn enough to go on Mt Everest expedition. However, with the help of local TRS leaders, Baswaraj met Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs T Padma Rao, who assured him to grant Rs 3.5 lakh to go on Kilimanjaro expedition.

As the grant was delayed for technical reasons, local TRS leaders led by Deputy Speaker M Padmadevendar Reddy granted some amount. The Deputy speaker donated Rs 50,000; Chinna Shankarampet TRS president Paturi Raju donated Rs 10,000; Chinna Shankarampet sub-inspector donated Rs 10,000; T Madapur village president Sidda Goud donated Rs 3,000; friends and relatives also contributed some amount.

Sidda Goud said that many came forward to support him. Raju said that they would see to it that the money promised by the government gets released immediately with the help of Deputy Speaker.

Baswaraj told ‘Telangana Today‘ that he was thankful to the donors and State government for extending support to him. Stating that he was confident of scaling Mt Kilimanjaro, he added that he would display Indian National Flag and Telangana government’s logo at Mt Kilimanjaro.

Basawaraj, who is part of a nine member Telugu expedition team going on Mt Kilimanjaro expedition, is the only person from Telangana, the rest are from Andhra Pradesh. The team will start the expedition on Friday evening.
