Medak: Setting a record of sorts, two districts from Telangana- Medak and Warangal (Urban), have bagged the prestigious Unnat Bharat Abhiyan award for which just five districts from all over the country were selected.
Medak district administration bagged the award for the synergy between the district administration and higher educational institution (IIT-Hyderabad) during their work in five villages.
Medak district administration has worked in at five selected villages in Kowdipally mandal in district on various indicators to improve the hygiene and inculcate best health practices among the villagers. IIT-Hyderabad is the knowledge partner of the Medak district in this endevour.
In recognisation of their collective work at these villages, the Union Minister of HRD, Prakash Javadevkar presented the award to Medak Collector Bharathi Holikare and Warangal (Urban) Collector K Amrapali during a programme in New Delhi on Thursday.
Speaking over the phone with ‘Telangana Today’ from New Delhi after receiving the award, Holikare said they completed 100 per cent toilets at Bujarampet, Ananthram, Kannaram, Salabhatpur and Mohamed Nagar in Kowdipally madnal besides introducing best solid waste management practice.
Soak pits were dug up on the premises of every house for better conservation of water. Sashidhar, faculty at Department of Civil Engineering at IIT-Hyderabad led the team, which worked closely with Medak district administration to make the work possible. Professor Sashidhar said the work was possible with the best co-ordination between the district administration and the institute.
