Hyderabad: Following the successful conduct of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), the Telangana State police are getting applause from all quarters. And among those who were at the helm of planning the security arrangements and liasioning with the US Secret Service, one officer needs special mention. Meet Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Anjani Kumar, who not only played a key role in supervising security arrangements for the visit of US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, but has done it earlier too, during the visits of Bill Clinton and George W Bush in 2000 and 2006, when they were the Presidents of the US.
Anjani Kumar, a 1990 batch officer, had also received an appreciation letter from Bush in 2006 for coordinating with various wings associated in making foolproof security arrangements. He was the Deputy Inspector of General of Police of Nizamabad at that time. A few days after the US government and NITI Aayog selected the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) for the summit, much planning was needed for smooth conduct of the event.
“We were in touch with the US Secret Service and other security agencies for last three months to discuss security measures in detail and prepare a threat perception report,” Anjani Kumar told Telangana Today. Consultations with Ministry of Home Affairs, Intelligence Bureau, Special Branch, and State Intelligence department, Intelligence Security Wing were conducted on a regular basis. On doubly cross checking on the preparedness, the first level of meeting was conducted with the US Secret Service to discuss protocol.
Consultations were also carried out with an Advanced Security Liasoining (ASL) team. Accordingly, security measures were taken up at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Trident Hotel, HICC and the Golconda Fort where Ivanka Trump visited after arriving in the city on Tuesday. Focus was laid on VVIP movement areas, whom to be allowed near VIPs, access control and anti-sabotage checks.
Senior officials from the Special Protection Group (SPG) also chipped in to oversee the arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. With the event conducted successfully and all going as planned, Anjani Kumar said, “It gives immense satisfaction for us as the hard work yielded results”.
