Nalgonda: Neelagiri unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday organized an awareness programne on mental health for the inmates of Dist Central Jail at Nalgonda, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day.
Inaugurating the programme, Superintendent of District Central Jail Krishna said that some persons commit emotional crimes because of mental instability. The Jail Department was conducting awareness programmes for such inmates to bring about changes in them. They should follow the suggestions extended by psychiatrists at the special programme. If the inmates are released from jail without treating their mental problems, there was a possibility of such persons commiting crime again, he maintained.
IMA Neelagiri unit president Dr Pulla Rao said that there was a need to bring psychological change in the persons involved on the crimes through proper counseling. Then only they can lead problems free life with their families.
IMA State Council member Dr Jayaprakash Reddy said that there was need to keep a watch on the persons who have abnormal behavior as chances of such people being involved in the crimes were more. People can get rid of unhealthy thoughts by adopt spiritual life.
Senior psychiatrist Dr Subba Rao said that suicides rate was increasing among students and youth for silly reasons due to psychological problems.
Dr Subba Rao had a personal interaction with inmates on various psychological problems the faced.
