Hyderabad: The first edition of the ‘National symposium on issues in Indian economy’ was organised by the Department of Economics and Finance, BITS Pilani- Hyderabad campus took off on Friday with presentations by Prof G Sundar, Director, and Prof Prabhat Patnaik, the keynote speaker.
Prof Patnaik spoke about the issues in the Indian economy leading to the present slowdown. As the session progressed, he touched upon hotly debated issues like the concept of a welfare state, the missteps of the present government in handling the economy, and how taxing corporate wealth does not lead to a decrease in investments.
The second speaker in the line-up was Prof Ramana Sonti of ISB Hyderabad who spoke on the importance of being up to date on the economy, and how it impacts today’s youth. The last speaker for the day was Prof R K Mishra, of IPE Hyderabad who eruditely spoke on the problems in the education system of India and how it should adapt from education systems practiced around the world.
