Kothagudem: District Collector MV Reddy ordered a probe into the incident involving doctors who declared a live new born baby dead at Bhadrachalam Area Hospital in Kothagudem district.

He appointed Bhadrachalam Revenue Divisional Officer Swarna Latha as the investigating officer to probe into the incident. The RDO was asked to submit a detailed report based on the inquiry at the earliest.

The Collector expressed his ire at the incident and warned that any negligence in offering treatment to patients at government hospitals would not be tolerated. Action would be taken against the erring health officials after the report is submitted, he said.

It may be recalled that six-month pregnant M Sunitha of Narsingapuram of Chintur mandal from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh was admitted to the hospital a few days ago. The doctors performed a caesarian operation on her on Saturday for the delivery of fraternal twins, a boy and a girl. The doctors declared the baby boy dead as there was no movement in the its body and the infant was of extreme low birth weight, weighing only 568 grams.

The child swaddled in a cover was handed over to the parents, who later found the baby alive. Then the infant was rushed to MGM Hospital in Warangal for better medical care.
