Hyderabad: A new bulletproof bus is to be built for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in view of recent increased Maoist-related incidents and changing perceptions among security agencies and the Home Department with respect to the need to provide fool-proof security to the Chief Minister during his travel in the State.
Officials of the Home and Transport Departments met here on Monday to discuss the initial details of the proposal for an additional high-security bus for the Chief Minister.
A seven-member high-level committee with Roads & Buildings Department Principal Secretary Sunil Sharma as its convener met on Monday to discuss preparation of a plan and submit it to the General Administration Department.
The other members of the committee are Principal Secretary of Home Department Rajiv Trivedi, Joint Managing Director Ramana Rao, Intelligence IG Naveen Chand, chief of Intelligence Security Wing MK Singh, technical expert from the Police Department Srinivas, GAD Secretary Aravinder Singh and commissioner of the transport department.
The committee will study the specifications for the bus and the technologies to be incorporated into it to meet the requirements of the Chief Minster’s Office and his security requirements. The bus is expected to cost about Rs 7 crore.
The new bus is expected to be ready in about two or three months and tenders are to be called soon for issuing a contract for building the vehicle. The government, three years ago, procured a bulletproof bus for the Chief Minister that was built by JCBL of Chandigarh at a cost of Rs 4 crore.
