Hyderabad: Giving in to the rising demand for an alternate route for the smooth flow of traffic between Borabanda and Hitec City, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning a Road over Bridge (RoB) between the two areas.
With the Hyderabad Metro Rail works being taken up at Jubilee Hills checkpost and Madhapur, peak hours see traffic moving at a snail’s pace along Parvathnagar, Vivekanandanagar, Allapur road, Pipula road and the Hitec City route. Many motorists, especially software employees and those working in different corporate companies therefore prefer the Borabanda route to reach Hitec City.
“Earlier, there was not much traffic on this route but these days it has become congested and traffic moves very slow. There is a need to develop an alternate road,” says Manoj Reddy, a regular commuter on the route.
There has been a demand for a RoB in the area since long from local residents. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao, during a roadshow early this year in Moosapet, had announced that a new flyover would be constructed connecting Khaitlapur and Ayyappa Society.
Accordingly, the GHMC is now roping in a consultancy firm to study the feasibility of constructing a RoB from Borabanda to Hitec City. The agency will study and submit a report indicating the locations from where the RoB should commence from the Borabanda side and culminate at the Hitec City end, a senior GHMC official said.
“It will be a four-lane carriageway RoB and a few private properties have to be acquired. This apart, a requisition has been sent to Railways to approve the project as a railway track passes through the proposed areas. It will be like a parallel flyover to the existing Hitec City flyover,” he explained.
