Warangal Urban: Minister of Prohibition and Excise, Sports and Youth services V Srinivas Goud said the State government was all set to chalk out a sports policy for the State after taking the opinion of sportspersons.
Goud and Panchayat Raj Minister E Dayakar Rao inaugurated a skill development centre set up in the Industrial Estate on Mulugu Road and laid the foundation for the construction of synthetic athletic track being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Hanamkonda here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the maintenance of the track would be taken care of by contactor for seven years. “The State government that successfully completed the irrigation projects by laying special focus would also focus on sports and tourism development in the State,” he said, adding that the government would also ensure implementation of 0.2 per cent reservations in jobs and 0.5 percent in admissions to educational institutions through the sports policy.
“In order to encourage the rural youth in the sports, we are constructing one stadium in each constituency by spending a total o Rs 325 crore and so far 34 have been completed,” he added. The Sports minister also said that they had increased the cash incentives for those who are winning medals in the Asia Athletics and Olympics and added that
Rs 33.30 crore were given as encouragement. Referring to courses offered at the skill development centre, he said that 47 courses would be offered for the jobless youth to enhance their skills. A Venkateshwar Reddy Chairman, Sports Authority of Telangana State and others were present at the programme.
