Theatres plays are a common find in the city, but this is one comes with a twist. Categorised under the genre horror, the play titled Dayyala Kompa is the Telugu adaptation of Titus Maccius Plautus’s (254-184 BC) Roman play, The Haunted House. Asked to share his idea behind choosing this play, Ramesh Kishan Goud, who conducted the 45-day workshop and director of the play says, “Horror as a genre for theatre plays is something very unusual. We wanted to give the audience something very different and nail-biting, something that will keep them on the edge of their seat, excited to see how the story will unfold.”

A total of 12 actors and 6 crew members with 45 days to prepare was all the team had to pull this play off. “They are all fresher’s to the theatre and I can confidently say that they have done a marvellous job,” the director praises. Choosing to elaborate, he adds, “The play wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of Mamidi Harikrishna garu, Director, Department of Language and Culture. He was the one who chose the play in the first place and motivated us to see it through.”

Talking about how one lie leads to a hundred new ones, the play highlights the consequences how lies and the company of wrong people will eventually lead to your downfall.

Sharing his experience of working on horror-comedy, Venugopal, who essays the role of a money lender in the play says, “Working here didn’t feel like work at all because of the environment and people. We trained continuously for the last 45 days and I’m extremely looking forward to finally acting it out this Saturday.” The play will be staged at 11:30 am at Ravindra Bharathi on July 13.
