Hyderabad: Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy on Saturday ordered for a detailed enquiry on how the body of a deceased Covid-19 positive patient was directly handed over to relatives instead of following standard protocols of Covid-19 dead body disposal at Government Hospital in Nizamabad.

According to the preliminary inquiry conducted by hospital officials, on Friday, the body of a deceased at Government General Hospital, Nizamabad was apparently released to their relatives by the mortuary officials at the hospital. The relatives transported the body in an auto and performed the last rites, which is against the protocols of Covid-19 dead body disposal.

The DME has instructed the Nizamabad Hospital Superintendent to file criminal cases on staff involved in handing over the body.

“All the Hospital superintendents in Telangana are instructed to strictly follow the guidelines and such incidents should not be repeated in public interest,” Dr Ramesh Reddy said.
