Nalgonda: In a surprising incident, officials and elected representatives on Saturday staged a protest in front of the house of Banavath Krishna, who rejected their proposal to construct Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) at his residence.

When all the efforts to convince Krishna, a resident of Naidupalem village of Anumula mandal, to allow construction of IHHL at his house did not yield results, officials protested outside his house for over two hours.

The officials included Anumula Mandal Parishad Development officer A Janaiah, village secretary G Raju, assistant project officer Praven Kumar and MPTC Ramavath Anjamma.

Naidupalem village was to be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) with the construction of this toilet but Krishna’s opposition leaves the village waiting to be declared ODF.

Even when village sarpanch Vasantha came forward to bear the share of beneficiary, Krishna strongly opposed it.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Janaiah said the officials and elected representatives made all efforts to convince Krishna but to no avail. “Vexed with his attitude, we have decided to stage a protest at his house to bring a change in him,” he said.

They have also informed him that all the benefits from the State government would be stopped if there was a delay in constructing individual toilet at his home immediately.
