Peddapalli: Public representatives, political leaders and government officials on Thursday inspected crops and properties damaged in the gale and hailstorm that hit the district on Wednesday.
Peddapalli MLA Dasari Manohar Reddy along with farmers’ coordination committee president Kota Ramreddy examined the damaged paddy and maize crops in Suddala of Sultanabad mandal. He interacted with the affected farmers and assured suitable compensation.
Speaking on the occasion, he said agriculture department officials were conducting survey to assess crop damage due to gale and hailstorm. The report would be submitted to the government.
Stating that farmers need not to worry, the MLA promised to provide compensation for the damaged crops. Later, he examined houses damaged due to heavy winds in Shanthinagar and Markandaya colony in Sultanabad mandal headquarters.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders including Kisan Congress national vice-chairman Kodanda Reddy, State chairman Anvesh Reddy, Peddapalli constituency in-charge Ch Vijayaramana Rao and others also inspected the crop damage in Gurrampalli of Peddapalli mandal and Vennampalli of Kalwasrirampur mandal.
They demanded that the State government protect farmers by providing compensation to the damaged crops.
According to agriculture department statistics, standing crops in 6,695 acres were damaged in the gale and hailstorm. Of that paddy was damaged in 6,695 acres. Maize and sesamum were affected in 272 and 63 acres respectively.
Speaking to Telangana Today, District Agriculture Officer, R Tirumala Prasad informed that they are sending crop damage details to the state government. All affected farmers would be provided compensation, he said.
