Warangal: Officials of agriculture and horticulture departments have begun the final survey to assess crop damage caused by the recent heavy rains and hailstorms on Wednesday. They were asked to submit the report to the State Government in the next three days, said Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy. All most all crops including maize, chilli, groundnut, sunflower, jowar, banana, cow pea and mustard were completely damaged due to the unseasonal rains which lashed the district from January 10 to 15, while the hailstorm pounded the district on January 11.
According to the preliminary reports, crops in about 42,000 acres were damaged due to these rains causing heavy loss for the small and marginal farmers including the tenant farmers in Narsampet, Parkal and Wardhannapet Assembly constituencies limits in Warangal (rural) district.
As both Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy and Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy met the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and urged him to take steps for payment of suitable compensation, he had directed Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, PR and RD Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and officials to inspect the fields.
“As per the directions of the Chief Minister, both Niranjan Reddy and Errabelli Dayakar Rao visited district on Tuesday and assured that the farmers would be given compensation,” MLA Sudarshan Reddy said and asked the officials to receive the requests from the farmers on the crop loss during their ongoing final survey, and also take steps to display the report on the crop damage at the respective Gram Panchayat office in order to inform the farmers.
Urging the farmers to cooperate with the officials putting their political affiliations aside, he also assured the cotton farmers of getting compensation from the government. The MLA has also asked the officials to complete the survey within the stipulated time and submit the report to the government so as to help the farmers get compensation at the earliest.
