Hyderabad: One person was killed, while two others sustained injuries when a cab driver, in an inebriated state rammed his car into them on the PVNR Expressway here in the wee hours of Friday.
T Naveen Goud, a project engineer, along with five others working for Act Fiber Private Limited, were taking up cable work for surveillance cameras from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital to Aramghar on the PVNR Expressway for the last one week from 11 pm to 5 am.
As usual, at around 1 am on Friday, Naveen Goud along with Venkat Reddy; R Kataiah; Sudhakar; Suresh and Muttaiah were at work wearing reflective jackets and had also placed the cones, when the incident occurred.
According to the Rajendranagar police, a Hyundai Eon cab with Mallikarjun Goud at the wheel, rammed the group killing Kataiah (41), who sustained grievous bleeding injuries, on the spot.
“Due to the impact, Kataiah was flung into the air and fell on the car’s windshield. The car driver lost control of the wheel and further went on to ram the railing of the expressway. From pillar no 179, Kataiah fell down at pillar number 180,” police said, adding that he was severely injured and died on the spot.
Two other persons Sudhakar and N.Suresh suffered grievous multiple fractures. They were shifted to the Osmania General Hospital and are being treated. Their condition was stated to be stable.
Police said Mallikarjun Goud was taken into custody and the car was seized. A case for negligence causing death was booked and is being investigated. Kattaiah’s body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue and was later handed over to the family after autopsy.
