Hyderabad: Efforts to construct an additional entry and exit points on the PVNR Expressway, the country’s longest flyover, gained momentum with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) finalising the agency for taking up the works.

The additional up and down ramps are being planned at a cost of about Rs 36 crore. These up and down ramps will be coming up from Pillar No 156 to 166 on the structure. They are being constructed to ease traffic congestion at Mehdipatnam and to facilitate additional entry and exit points to the Expressway.

A private agency, which constructed underpass and flyovers under Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), has been selected in the open tenders. Work order has been issued and currently the agency is conducting its survey and a design of the proposed ramps will be submitted shortly. The same will be presented to the government for final approval, said a senior official from HMDA.

“Ground works will commence from next month and the structures will be constructed in 12 to 15 months,” said the official.

On the need for traffic regulation for executing the works, the official said the piers for the ramps would be constructed on the service roads and this will not require any traffic regulation. Some traffic diversion and regulation will be imposed when the structures will be joined with the main bridge, he informed. Currently, there are three sets of entry and exit points to the flyover. Considering the demand and to provide access to local areas’ traffic, HMDA is constructing an additional set of up and down ramp.

The proposed up and down ramps will commence from pillar no 156 and will drop at pillar no 166 near Royal Oak Building on either sides of the structure. The State government has already sanctioned the amount. To expedite the construction of ramps, steel girders will be used in place of the conventional RCC girders.
