Hyderabad: Plans to lift a minimum of 2 TMC from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) every day from Medigadda to Yellampally appears to be materialising with the engineers turning on four pumps each at Annaram and Sundilla to lift 1 TMC that would help provide assured irrigation to 18.25 lakh acres of ayacut in 13 districts of the State this Vaanakalam.
As on Tuesday, four pumps at Siripuram pump house of Annaram (Saraswathi) barrage and four pumps at Goliwada Pump house at Sundilla (Parvathi) barrage have been turned on and 1 TMC has been lifted considering the satisfactory levels of water in all the three main barrages of the project. “The water levels at Medigadda continues to be good with 50,000 cusecs of inflows of Pranahitha flood water filling up the 16.17 TMC capacity reservoir. The existing water level is 98.2 meters as against Full Reservoir level (FRL) of 100 meters, and the available quantum of water is 11.6 TMC out of the storage capacity of 16.17 TMC,” Ramana Reddy, Superintending Engineer KLIS, told Telangana Today.
At Annaram, the water level is 118.3 meters as against 119 meters FRL, with 8.5 TMC in the 10.87 TMC capacity reservoir. Four pumps out of eight, each with a capacity of 40 MW have been switched on and they are lifting 0.5 TMC everyday. Similarly, water level at Sundilla is 127.7 (FRL-130 meters) and the current storage is 6 TMC as against 8.83 TMC capacity reservoir. Four 40 MW pumps out of nine are working day-and-night pumping 0.5 TMC.
Engineers Ready to lift from MMD
The KLIS engineers are waiting for the water from Yellampally to be lifted into the 25.873 TMC capacity Mid Manair also known as Sri Raja Rajeshwara (SRR) reservoir, so that the process of filling of Link IV projects downstream will follow. “From MMD we will be filling up Annapurna (Anantagiri), Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar. Already there is 5 TMC in Kondapochamma Sagar and the filling up of canals has been going on,” KLIS Engineer-In-Chief (Hyderabad) Bhukya Hariram told Telangana Today. Water from Kondapochamma Sagar is being released to Jagdevpur and Turkapalli canals which are filling up check dams, tanks and other smaller water bodies.
On the other hand the Priyadarshini Jurala Project (PJP) on river Krishna , is receiving 13,000 cusecs of inflows and the outflows on Tuesday are 14,433 cusecs. All the three lift irrigation projects on PJP have been lifting water and the left and right main canals are receiving 650 cusecs and 630 cusecs respectively. The two hydro electrical power generating stations at Jurala and Lower Jurala situated in Jogulamba Gadwal district is generating power to the tune of 28 million units per day. At Srisailam, the inflows are 28,455 cusecs and outflow is 46,013 cusecs. At Nagarjunasagar the inflows are 38,594 cusecs and outflows are 2,553 cusecs.
