Osmania University College of Engineering’s EMC2 (Engineers’ Music and Cultural Club) will be organising music competitions this month for all the musicians and music lovers in the college to share their musical views and enhance their potential in whatever way possible.
EMC2 conducts regular jam sessions and open mic events to provide a platform for students to express themselves. “Raaga: The Voice Hunt”, the annual music competition organised by the club, drew a lot of raw talent and has given them exposure to take their passion forward.
“There have been numerous occasions where notable alumni of OUCE have spoken about clubs which were functioning during their period of education, and how they faded away eventually due to various reasons. After such a dormant period for non-technical student forums in the institution, the inception of EMC2 was the first conscious effort which was made to revive the club culture in UCE, OU,” said DL Prachotan, vice=president and co-founder of EMC2. Prachotan is an All India Radio “B HIGH” grade vocalist and performing artiste.
The official band of the club was formed last year and even took part in a couple of ‘Battle of Bands’ events. Guitar classes and vocal training sessions are frequently held in order to enhance the potential of enthusiastic students. Members of the club actively participated in cultural events in the college on quite a few occasions like the “Global Alumni Meet, 2019” and the college’s former Vice-Chancellor’s retirement ceremony — justifying the club’s premise of existing as a cultural forum as well.
The club currently comprises spirited participants from all the engineering branches and an Executive Committee under the leadership of AS Sarthak (president and co-founder of EMC2), a multi-talented drummer, guitarist, tabla player and singer, and the faculty mentorship of Dr V Uma Maheshwar.
