Hyderabad: The Osmania University on Friday declined permission for Congress president Rahul Gandhi to visit its campus on August 14.
Replying to a representation made by some students seeking permission to host an interactive session with Gandhi, the OU administration said: “The university declined the request made by student organisations regarding Rahul Gandhi’s visit to OU due to security issues as he is under special security coverage”.
The reply trigged protests on the campus, especially in front of the University College of Arts and Social Sciences. Students barged into the chambers of Vice-Chancellor Prof. S Ramachandram and questioned as to why the administration had to decline permission.
Gandhi is on a two-day tour to the State on August 13 and 14. Accordingly, students sought permission from the university administration for hosting the event at Tagore Auditorium from 2 pm to 3 pm on August 14.
