Pan shop owner’s wife lodges plaint against victim

Hyderabad: In an unusual turn of events, the wife of Upendra Varma, who was arrested by the Kachiguda police on charges of raping a software employee after promising to marry her, approached the Bowenpally police and lodged a complaint against the victim and her family for threatening her.

The complainant, Preethi Varma, in her complaint on June 8, told the police that the 26-year-old victim and her parents had come to their house in Bowenpally while she was alone. They threatened her to separate from her husband, so that they could get their daughter married to him.

Based on Varma’s complaint, a case for house trespassing, threatening and other offences was booked as per law against the victim and her parents. ,,The surveillance cameras installed in the surrounding also recorded them.

The Bowenpally police issued notice to the victim seeking her reply. Officials said further action will be taken based on her reply.

It was last week that the Kachiguda police arrested Upendra Varma (32), who runs Mayur Pan House in the city. Three of his friends too were arrested on charges of helping him. The victim had alleged that Varma concealed the truth that he was married and raped her. When she asked about their marriage, he started avoiding her and also threatened to upload their private pictures and videos on social media, she alleged.
