Hyderabad: The Telangana Liberation Day was celebrated by different political parties except AIMIM here on Thursday. It was on September 17, 1948 that the erstwhile state of Hyderabad was liberated.
TRS Working President and IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao unfurled the national flag at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar offered floral tributes to Telangana Talli and Acharya Jayashankar’s statues at the party office. Home Minister Mahmood Ali and GHMC Mayor Bontu Rammohan, legislators and party leaders were also present.
State Planning Board Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar said the Liberation Day was a fight against tyranny of the Nizam and land lords. “The progressive rule in Telangana was made possible only through the inspiration that we gained from the sacrifices of those fought for liberation,” he said, at a gathering of first generation agitators of Telangana movement and TRS leaders at his residence here.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy, in a message, said a people’s movement against the Nizam and his Razakar army bore fruit when Sardar Patel launched Operation Polo. On September 17, people across Telangana and parts of modern day Marathwada and Karnataka celebrate a second Independence Day. “Due to contemporary politics, this day doesn’t get as much attention in the official sense as it should,.” he observed.
TPCC Uttam Kumar Reddy wished the people of Telangana on the occasion and said that political parties such as BJP, TRS and AIMIM have nothing to do with the Liberation day. “BJP and Majlis are indulging in politics of religion in the name of Liberation Day,” he said, adding that people of the region also must remember that the it was the Congress that bifurcated the erstwhile AP and carved a liberated Telangana.
BJP State unit chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in his statement, demanded that Liberation Day be celebrated officially.
