Hyderabad: The controversy over Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan’s allegation that people from Andhra Pradesh were beaten up in Telangana, refuses to die. Even as the statement drew backlash from the people of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alike, there was no effort on the part of either the JSP or Pawan Kalyan himself to end the controversy, triggering a war of words between netizens from both the States.
A few Telangana-based organisations and individuals on Sunday also lodged complaints with police against Pawan in various police stations for his provocative statements. The video was widely circulated on social media where Pawan made the controversial statements while addressing a roadshow in Bhimavaram before filing his nominations. He can be heard telling the crowd that caste and religious differences led the people of Andhra Pradesh to fight among themselves, while people from Andhra Pradesh were beaten up in Telangana.
Nearly three days after his controversial statements, the JSP president did not issue any clarification despite senior politicians, including TRS working president KT Rama Rao, taking up the issue with the former through social media.
Film personalities such as Posani Krishna Murali, Chinni Krishna and YSRC leaders from Andhra Pradesh, including Botsa Satyanarayana, also cautioned Pawan against making unnecessary statements for votes. Netizens from various parts of AP who are residing in Telangana, especially Hyderabad, voiced in support of Rama Rao’s tweet and said they were living in safe environs, and provocative statements by the likes of Pawan would only lead to unnecessary animosity between people from the two States.
Rajendra Vemana (@saivemana) from Nellore stated on Twitter that he has been living happily in Hyderabad for the last 30 years. “Such type of talk by anyone creates bad blood and negativity in the minds of citizens. Politicians must avoid such statements,” he urged.

Another netizen Yeshwanth (yeswanth86) said he was living in Telangana for the past 10 years and no Telanganite had beaten him but were only friendly. “Pawan Kalyan is getting mad day by day as Andhra Pradesh elections are ahead,” he said.

Sesha Brahmam on Facebook suggested that showing respect and love towards the soil and people who feed them is one’s basic human responsibility. Sindhu (@DOLLYDREAMS13), a native of Andhra Pradesh, too stated that she was never beaten up or insulted by people from Telangana. Rather, she felt that duffers and rogues try to cook up stories of hatred for their selfish interests. Another netizen (@idlechinna) who appears to be a Jana Sena supporter, advised Pawan Kalyan to clarify on his comments before it goes viral as it will be helpful to both JSP and its activists. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan’s fans like Santosh Chari (@santhosh_chari) condemned the actor’s statements.
I have relatives in Rayalaseema and Telangana..They are not rowdys or factionists rather very loving affectionate n peaceful people. These days a stupid man makes derogatory remarks on people belonging to particular region and religion to instigate violence btwn ppl.

Twitterati attempted to trend statements like ‘I am a Telanganite and I didn’t/don’t beat Andhra people’ and ‘I have lived in Telangana and no one had abused me’ on the lines of ‘My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist’ which was a popular dialogue by actor Sharukh Khan.
Netizens also criticised Pawan and accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of provoking people of AP and Telangana for their political motives. “For selfish benefits, Pawan is instigating differences between Andhraites and Telanganites. He should prove if there are any riots on Andhra people in Telangana,” said N Bhanu Prasad Rao (@bpr_nuthakki) from Andhra Pradesh, who is residing peacefully in Hyderabad.
A few others felt that while people of Telangana were not discriminating against those from AP, it was only in AP that people of Telangana were being distanced to some extent. Netizens like Soumi (@Sou_me_ya) stated that ‘Hyderabad=Harmony’ and felt that she was lucky to have been brought up in a friendly atmosphere where she had friends from Tamil, Gujarathi, Marathi, Kannada and Malayali communities.
