Khammam: The District Collector RV Karnan warned that PD Act would be invoked against the traders and dealers found selling spurious seeds and pesticides in the district.
Collector chaired a preparatory meeting with agriculture officials in view of ensuing kharif season here on Tuesday evening. He directed the officials to visit seeds shops and check that banned HT cotton seeds were not sold to farmers. Collector asked agriculture officials to hold meetings at mandal level with dealers and inform the traders that they would be booked under PD Act if they were found to be selling fake seeds and pesticides.
Karnan wanted the officials to encourage farmers to go for inter-cropping, dry-cum-wet paddy cultivation, alternate crops instead of regular crops and to keep required seeds, pesticides and fertilizers ready for the season.
Extensive campaign should be conducted to motivate farmers to take up groundnut along with pulses and millet. Steps should be taken to promote cattle rearing and grow fodder to feed the cattle, he suggested.
District Agriculture Officer Jhansi Lakshmi Kumari, Horticulture Officer Anasuya, Veterinary Officer Dr. Narsimhulu, ATMA Director Vijaya Nirmala, agriculture scientist Hemanth Kumar and others were present.
