Vijayawada: The permissions for spillway works of the ongoing Polavaram Project would be sanctioned by November 29 by the Central government, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday. He informed that the spillway designs were under the consideration of CWC officials.

He further added that they would start concrete works from December 10. Through the project 50 lakh cusecs of water could be released for the farm sector and Polavaram is the only project in the world to have 21 m high gates. Naidu held an aerial survey of the project on Monday and conducted a meeting with officials concerned. He enquired the progress of the ongoing soil-removing works. He informed that 47 tmcft of water can be utilised by the State through the Pattiseema Project.

He said that the Central government has been considering the Pattiseema Project as an example for the intra-State river linking projects in the country.

He said that still 17.20 lakh cubic meters of earth work needs to be completed at the Polavaram Project. Some 49,000 acres of land should be acquired for this project and the government has been doing it judiciously. Some leaders in the State have been promoting antidevelopment propaganda against the State government, he said and added that he would not allow them to create bottlenecks in the development of the State.
