Hyderabad: Director General of Police (Road Safety and Railways) T Krishna Prasad on Thursday urged all petrol pump dealers to put up flexi boards on their premises highlighting the adverse impact of not wearing a helmet while driving.

In a statement issued here, he said the dealers could install boards with captions – ‘We care for you. Please wear helmet’, ‘Your family is waiting for you. Please wear helmet’, ‘Please wear helmet and do visit us again’.

He requested all the family members of two-wheeler riders to insist on their dear family member to wear a helmet. As per the law, not only the rider but also the pillion rider should wear a helmet.

He said driving without helmet was one of the major causes for deaths in road accidents. “Nearly 50 per cent of those who die in road accidents are two-wheeler riders and pedestrians,” he said.

Among two-wheeler riders who die in road accidents, over 50 per cent were those who do not wear helmets. “This is a sad situation,” he said, adding that a helmet costs less than Rs 1,000 but a human life is invaluable.
