Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a man and his two sisters-in-law drowned in the Bommakuru reservoir in Narmetta mandal in the district on Saturday. It is learnt that the alleged recklessness and craze for photographs led to the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Moodavath Avinash (32), son of Laxman, of Jangaon town, and Lakavath Sangeetha (19) and Lakavath Sumalatha (18), daughters of Lakavath Anjaiah, of Gidda Banda (GB) thanda of Raghunathpally mandal in the district.
According to the sources, Avinash, who works for a private company in Hyderabad, came to Jangaon on holiday and went to his in-laws’ house at Gidda Banda Thanda of Raghunathapally mandal on Saturday. There he picked up his wife Divya and her cousins and went to Bommakuru reservoir. While Avinash along with his cousins entered the waters in the reservoir, Divya was videographing them on a cell phone. They were splashing water on each other for some time. But to the shock of Divya, they had suddenly drowned in the swirling waters. Though Divya shouted for help, by the time some locals reached the spot, three of them died. It is said that neither of them could swim.
The local police have arrived at the spot immediately after knowing the incident and fished out the bodies with the help of the expert swimmers. The bodies have been shifted to Jangaon area hospital for autopsy.
