Warangal Urban: Pig rearers (people belonging to Erukala community) are urging the authorities of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) to allot the land for them to construct the sheds for the pigs on the outskirts of the city. In order to keep the environs clean in the city by checking the movement of the pigs, the authorities issued notices to the pig rearers to shift the pigs to the outskirts.
Following the request of the pig rearers, the GWMC also allotted three acres of land to them to construct the sheds about two years ago. “But the some people had come to us when we were leveling the land and threatened to leave the place stating that the land was owned by them,” P Saraiah, a leader of Telangana Pradesh Erukula Sangam (TPES), Warangal Urban district.
Meanwhile, the authorities have again served notices on the pig rearers asking them to shift their pigs. “Since no land was allotted to us, we are unable to shift the pigs. Keeping this in view, we are requesting both the Mayor and Commissioner to allot the land for us before asking us to keep the pigs out of the city,” Saraiah added. The pig rearers also said that the government land is available survey numbers 389, 114 and 115 in Hasanparthy mandal, said Manupati Ramesh, district president of TPES. The TPES leaders met GWMC Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao a couple of days ago and submitted a memorandum to him urging him to allot land to the societies.
