Hyderabad: A marathon exercise was carried out before announcing promotions to 275 police personnel at one go by the State government on Saturday, bringing cheers to many who were aspiring for promotions for several years.
Following instructions from the government to submit a seniority list of Inspectors of Police from 1972 to give promotion as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), senior officials at the office of Director-General of Police had begun the exercise more than a month ago.
Accordingly, officials collected details and submitted a detailed list. “We did a lot of paper work before finalising the list. Details relating to cases pending in courts and orders issued by previous governments in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh were also examined,” a senior official said. The move was aimed at rendering justice to everyone as many police personnel had complained to the government of injustice in police promotions and some had even moved the court.
Taking a firm view to solve the issue in a transparent manner, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday conducted a meeting with senior police officers, legal officials and elected representatives, and the opinion of Advocate General was also sought before announcing promotions to 275 police personnel as non-cadre Superintendents of Police (SPs), Additional Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).
With this, every officer till the 1994 batch will get a promotion. The list was prepared considering the orders of Supreme Court. Two officials – North Zone IG Y Nagi Reddy and Hyderabad Range IG Stephen Ravindra met Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police N Sambasiva Rao a few days ago and discussed the issue.
Telangana Police Officers Association president Y Gopi Reddy thanked the government for announcing the promotions. Those hailing from Telangana and working in Andhra Pradesh have to wait for some more time as the AP government is yet to complete the process of finalising the list.
Hot topic of discussion
