Police seize cash from Kutami candidates

Officials seize the cash from TDP leader A Rammohan Rao’s residence in Khammam on Thursday.

Khammam/Kothagudem: Police seized nearly Rs 50 lakh unaccounted cash during raids conducted since midnight at different locations in erstwhile Khammam district on Thursday.

During a midnight raid on NVR guesthouse at bypass road the police seized Rs 8.22 lakh cash. Khammam ACP G Venkat Rao said that they received information regarding distribution of money to voters following which the MCC team and police raided and found a bag containing the cash. A case has been booked, he added.

It was learnt that Praja Kutami candidates engaged the persons to distribute money to voters. In another incident, the supporters of Khammam TDP candidate Nama Nageswara Rao allegedly attacked a TV news channel crew for covering distribution of money to women near his residence in Khammam city. A group of journalists staged dharna protesting against the attack. TDP district president T Brahmaiah tried to pacify the journalists who relented after the TDP candidates tendered an apology to the scribes.

In another incident at Khammam Three Town area, the police seized Rs 26 lakhs cash reportedly belonging to Praja Kutami candidate for Dornakal Assembly, Ramchander Naik.

In another raid on the residence of TDP leader A Rammohan Rao, the police seized Rs 14 lakhs unaccounted cash reportedly meant for distribution among voters.

Likewise, Rs 97, 000 cash was seized from the followers of Praja Kutami candidates while they were distributing cash to voters Tekulapally in Yellandu constituency and at Laxmidevipally in Kothagudem constituency.
