When the creator of popular television sitcom Amrutha, Gunnam Gangaraju, received requests from Telugu audiences to come up with one more wacky content, he had no clue how to go about it.
“What can we write for the new age audience was a big question to him. At some point, constant persistence from people had literally taken away his mental peace,” laughed television actor and principal cast of Amrutham, Harsha Vardhan.
The whole team of Amrutham 2 was chatting with creative head Nimmakayala Prasad during a webinar conversation. The sitcom comedy is being released as lockdown special episodes on Zee5 app on May 27.
Amrutham -2 has as many as 24 episodes. So far, only three episodes went live. The rest of the episodes would be released once the lockdown restricts are lifted.
The plan is to release three episodes every month. “Amrutham that came in early 2000 was based on social and political issues albeit with a comic twist. Even Amrutham 2 is based on contemporary issues. We have decided to shoot episodes one by one. Three episodes which have wrapped up shooting are ready to go. As the government eased restrictions, we have started post-production works. We have shot two lockdown special episodes with a duration of 10 and eight minutes. Vasu penned the script while my father (Gunnam Gangaraju) okayed it. The cast has been instructed and everyone has shot the videos in their respective houses. Harsha Vardhan has directed two episodes,” said Sandeep Gunnam, director of Amrutham – 2.
Senior character artiste LB Sriram said he was very fortunate to land roles in Amrutham 2. “We have started on an auspicious day of Ugadi festival. But God has made something in store for us. The compliment that Sandeep gave me on the first day of the shoot is memorable,” he added.
