Hyderabad: Minister for Power G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday slammed Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy for threatening to shut down construction of the 4,000 MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station at Damaracherla if the Congress comes to power.
Jagadish, speaking in Suryapet, said every concern with respect to the environment and safety of people had been addressed and it would be one of the cleanest power stations. It was to ensure quality execution of the project that it was handed to BHEL, the Minister said.
He also said once completed, the thermal station would provide direct employment to 8,000 people and indirect employment to about 10,000 people. He called on people of the district to teach a befitting lesson to the Congress in the coming elections because of its leaders who are determined to obstruct development in the district.
Earlier in the city, the CMD of TSGenco and TSTransco D Prabhakar Rao and senior BHEL officials also defended the power project. Addressing a press conference, Prabhakar dismissed the charges that the power plant did not make economic sense. He said once the State completes the project, then it can reduce its need to buy power from other sources by the extent of 4,000 MW. BHEL officials assured that the plant would meet stringent environmental norms.
