Hyderabad: Want to zoom around the city in one of those sleek BMWs or Audis or Mercs? This could be the time to go for one, but without shelling the actual price.

The pre-owned car industry, especially the luxury car category, after a few tough months post demonetization, is picking up in the city, with the prices slightly dipping. According to dealers, many from the city’s upper middle class section are increasingly heading for the ‘affordable’ pre-owned luxury cars. If you can afford the running costs, these cars will be better than the brand new ones and give you almost the same feel.

Priced much lesser than new ones, the demand for pre-owned luxury cars has been growing at 30-40 per cent on a year-on-year basis, dealers here say.

Gautam’s Auto Arena, which has multiple branches in the city, is one firm that specializes in selling pre-owned foreign luxury cars.

“Cars today are not just a mode of transportation, but a status symbol. Those who want to be part of the elite club of luxury car owners or car lovers and cannot exactly afford a brand new one would rather buy used vehicles that cost much less,” Mustafa Wajid, a sales executive at Auto Arena here says.

The price of the cars on display in pre-owned luxury car showrooms in the city typically range from 15 lakhs and upwards, depending on the make and year. With finance arranged, offers of free services and so on being doled out by the dealers, one could drive home a BMW 640D, which would cost well above Rs.1crore if it is brand new, at price nearly half of that.

“It might be two or three years old, but most of these luxury cars that come in for sale are as good as new, having done not much distance. We had a BMW top end model which had done less than 25,000km in four years. The owner, a doctor, was going abroad and wanted to sell it off as quickly as possible,” one dealer said.

“The buyers of these luxury cars usually sell them off after a year or two and upgrade to a better model. This way, many pre-owned luxury cars end up in the market,” says Srinivas of Ingens, a pre-owned luxury car showroom at Madhapur.

In short, from an Audi to a Mercedes, from a Jaguar to a Porsche, the city’s pre-owned luxury car showrooms have the cars to suit your budget and fulfil your desire.

“We usually showcase only those used cars that are priced above Rs 15 lakhs. Our latest arrivals are Audi A3 and Toyota Fortuner,” Srinivas said.
