Hyderabad: Shocked by the abrupt end, thanks to BCCI, Purnima Rau recalls the sacrifices she made as coach of the Indian women’s cricket team.
“When my mother passed away last year, I was in Mulapadu (near Vijayawada) for the India-West Indies one-day series. I drove down to Hyderabad, saw my mother’s body in the mortuary before flying back to Vijayawada to be in time for the team meeting,’’ recalls Purnima.
Purnima said it is sad the BCCI failed to recognize her efforts.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary T Shesh Narayan said they will have discussions with Purnima Rau before taking up the matter with BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (COA). “We will talk with Purnima and then put forward her case to the CoA,’’ he said.
Former secretary John Manoj said that it was shocking news. “She was a successful coach. The BCCI should have informed her before taking such a major decision. I think HCA should take up the matter with BCCI and find out the reasons for her removal as coach of Indian women’s team,’’ he said.
Telangana Today’s exclusive interview with Purnima created ripples among the cricketing fraternity. Reputed cricket website Wisden India ran a full-length interview quoting Telangana Today.
